Block of quartzite (right) within a massive breccia above Allt nan Suidheachan, Kilchrist. Frequently blocks up to 1m diameter are found close to the granitic contact perhaps indicating a climactic eruptive phase.

Coated pellets (left) which probably fell in wake of a pyroclastic density current (PDC) at Kilchrist attest to co-ignimbrite “phoenix clouds” (diagram above after Branney and Kokelaar, 1992) which were generated by air ingestion and lofting at the front of a PDC.
